i think the real problem on most of the streets is that people don't have porch lights on... if we used porch lights, we wouldn't need these ugly street lights. (and, yes, even though I live in an apt., I take it upon myself to always make sure the light bulb is replaced and the light is on at night). I walk my dog at night, and i feel much safer with light. I know it doesn't keep me safe, but it allows me to see what's around me better so I can cross the street or go a different direction if something or someone is in the area that is making me uncomfortable. Without lights, I can't tell if there is someone lurking ....

I would vote "NO, They are too bright!" But, the website doesn't let me vote. I will say that our house is close to the street and the light is harsh and depressing. I think it it would be less problematic the farther you are away from them (like the houses that have long front yards).

I can't understand why these lights would make things safer. But, they do make things less unattractive. So, perhaps criminals don't want to rob people in an area that makes their skin look gray and casts harsh downward shadows.

Mr.Quigley is in charge of addressing any issues we have with these new lights. As it stands, my street, front patio, and the interior of our house now looks like a murder scene at an airport runway. I have explained to him that the houses running East and West are much closer to the street than North to South. I would like to get a cap (which he is willing to do) and a diffuser to lower the wattage (which is possible, but he seems less willing).

I know LED lights are here to stay, but just lower the wattage, please. Anyone that thinks these bright lights are going to make them safer, should think long and hard about their insecurities and what causes them. Show me a ghetto and I'll show you a brightly lit street.
