Parking Meter Times Change In Melrose Area

From the City of Los Angeles...

"The Department of Transportation is posting signs with new operating hours at parking meters in your community.

These new operating hours were approved by the City Council in July 2008.

Since that time, the Department has recalibrated and modernized parking meters. The next step in the process is to change the signs on the posts to agree with the hours displayed inside the meters.

The new operating hours are generally 8 AM-8 PM MON-SAT, 11 AM-8 PM Sunday. In areas where existing peak hour parking restrictions are in effect, customized signs will be ordered to exclude any peak hour restriction from the new meter hours of operation.

Please be advised that signs bearing the new meter hours are being installed beginning the weekend of September 5th, 2009 and will continue on weekends with an anticipated completion date of October 5th, 2009 .

Our area is included in this phase of the work. A map of the affected Parking Meter Zone in your area is below.  The sign posting work is being performed on weekends by City staff. Parking Enforcement will begin enforcing the new operating hours a few days after the new signs are installed. It is advisable to remind all stakeholders and motorists of their responsibility to read posted parking signs prior to parking and leaving their vehicle.

As you are aware, the meter rate and hours changes were approved by the City Council in July 2008. Since that time, DOT has been implementing these changes throughout the City. The ordinance that changed the rates has been in effect since September 2008.

meter maids work for lockheed corporation

the biggest secret in los angeles is that the meter maids all work for the lockheed corporation. the city contracts with lockheed to enforce the meters.
the goal of every greedy corporation is to continually increase their profits.
lockheed and the city aren't interested in the additional quarters going in the meters, it's the $50. fine for an expired meter ticket.

metered parking on melrose

Is the melrose area the only area with new hours of operation and sunday operation ?

i agree matt

i agree matt

longer hours of enforcement and now parking on sunday costs too?

This is outrageous !

Due to our lack of much needed public parking,
parking enforcement has for years now, chased away a huge portion of would be consumers from the melrose village!
I've watched for over 10 years, the meter maids patrolling the area and issuing an obscene amount of violations, some valid and some very questionable .
it amazes me that not only are there more meter maids on melrose than i've ever seen on any other street in Los angeles but , the weekly hours of meter are now to be extended as well as making meters active on sundays !!

Of course, there are numerous other aspects of this neighborhood that have been neglected by the city, county and landlords of commercial buildings for quite some time now for example; the alleyways behind all stores south and north of melrose, the homeless population, strong arm robberies , auto break ins, home burglaries , vandalism, public drug use, medicated individuals from local adult assisted living facilities, the countless "medical " marijuana dispensaries, the list goes on and on ...

"MELROSE AVE" is internationally recognized as a place for cool boutiques, unique gifts, great food and high fashion not to mention a stomping ground for local celebrities.

On a street that has more retail store front vacancies than any other shopping area , don't you think the city might want to help revitalize our community instead of coming up with more reasons or deterrents for consumers to NOT patronize our great shopping district?

come on city , give us a hand , not a back hand!
