Comments Needed! Post Your Opinions Here
As Melrose Action celebrated it's one year anniversary this past March, we thought the creation of a blog here would be a good "check in" with the community at large to work at pin pointing important quality of life issues you may have living in our community. This information will help us better guide resources to where they are needed most. Also, it helps all of us understand issues that may be serious to those directly effected.
This on-going information will help our neighborhood build a better policy on issues that would be addressed by our new Council District 5 administration. Speak up
While Melrose Action feels that a respectable amount of time has been and will continue to be focused on crime in our area, there are other issues that effect our quality of life and public safety at large.
Post Your Issues Here! (Examples: Dog Park, Parking, Traffic, Safety, Crime, Housing, Development)

NOISE- Harley Riders in Melrose Village
My PET PEEVE is noise--specifically from the Harley Davidson riders who cruise up and down Waring at various times day and night. They set of car alarms and wake up the neighborhood. These bikes are illegally souped up to be extra loud, apparently the owners are desperate for attention "look at me I'm cool and have a loud bike" what can be done about these offenders? Can't they ride on Santa Moncia or Melrose?
THe city would make a fortune giving them tickets for noise pollution.

MOVE TO PAMONA
trash
I think we should push for locks on dumpsters - with keys going to residents and trash companies. it has worked well in our building. cuts down on unwanted visitors human and otherwise, which in turn increases safety.
Trash
Actually, I'm pretty sure it is mandatory except store owners usually don't comply. Some of them don't even know it's mandatory. Anyone can report to the city any open trash dumpsters that aren't locked and the resident will get a fine. I know this from an experience I dealt with concerning a situation about this exact problem. The city came out and fined the resident on Melrose because it is very unsanitary when a dumpster is left open.
I agree wholeheartedly. It
I agree wholeheartedly. It is disgraceful that the city refuses to create more off leash dog excercise areas. They out to be ashamed.
Crime and safety
I can't wait to move out of this now horrible area! My vehicle has been broken into and damaged too many times. Ten years ago it was the safest area, now you have to look over your shoulder every second. No one seems to know how to park or drive on the streets. They all must be drunk or something. Am I the only one that feels like one can't wear a watch when walking on the sidewalk? The neighborhood has gone down the drain- more undesirables visiting and moving in to the area. This is how a once nice place turns into a ghetto people! Good luck!
crime is everywere what are

what are undesirables??? is this a particular race or class???
cant wait for you to move...
good luck...
Plummer Park will open a dog park, so dog owners can go there
It looks like Plummer Park is going to open a dog park, so dog owners and their dogs can go there. And the people who want to use Poinsettia Park - without having dogs jump all over them, or get into dog fights, or frighten little children, or have to listen to their owners screaming - will be able to use the park in peace. A win-win situation!
Well hopefully they will
Well hopefully they will spray Pointsettia Park for fleas because they are out of control!
what's with...
what's with the guy and the megaphone? with all the screaming kids?? people LIVE around here. we don't scream in a megaphone in their backyards!
poinsettia park noise
please join me in calling mario 323-876-5014 (leave a message - he will call you back) and/or his parks dept supervisor, veronica, 213-485-8744 (she also will call you back, maybe). i think i got rid of the pa system by doing so, and the once 7:30am sunday starting time for soccer and whistles non-stop was delayed, but not by much/enough, and it still goes on for 12 hrs! i've lived here a long time and the park didn't used to be so "in your face." there are other parks where people don't live so close, where these activites could take place without disruption to neighbors. the noise factor should be addressed here, but more of us need to complain if anything is going to change.
dogs at plummer
Oh, I totally disagree with you. I think there are not enought places for dogs to excercise off leash and Ive taken my dog there and have never seen any dogs fighting and Ive never seen one single dog poop. The owners are extremely consciencous.
dog poop
I pick up dog poop off my front lawn at least 5 times a week from unscrupulous dog owners. And having a 1.5 year old child that runs to pick up anything he sees is a problem when it comes to dog poo. I hope all the dog owners out there who walk the sidewalks responsibly call out their fellow dog owners who think it's okay to leave their shit on other people property. C'mon people, pick up your shit!
dog park at poinsettia
i just moved away from fuller ave, a half block down from poinsettia park. the only thing worse than all the tranny prostitutes and junkies at the park are the dogs and their owners. they do not live in the neighborhood, they drive from somewhere else to bring their dogs to the park. they do not clean up after their dogs, either in the park or on people's front lawns. your dogs are loud but you are louder when you scream at them to behave. the best part is, they don't behave, they still fight each other and chase after people walking through the park. believe me, if you live any where near this park, you don't want dogs and their crazy owners there. if you have a dog, you should just get a place with a yard for it to run and play, but no, you'd rather waste that money on a car lease that you can barely afford. by the way, that park is a breeding ground for giardia and fleas and worms and all sorts of other things to make your dog sick, so there.
agreed. i live directly by
agreed. i live directly by the park also and i woke this morning to find 25 flies in my apt. also have a huge flea problem.
this is not due to my apt cleanliness, but rather to that god-forbidden mess of a park.
down with the dogs & dog owners - this is not, not, not a dog park!
tax paying dog owners...
since when does paying taxes allow you to have your dog run ramped all over a park?
get in your car and go to a designated dog park.
dog run/dog park
I for one do NOT want a dog park or run in Poinsettia Park. The dog's barking is annoying, yet worse is their owners yelling at them. Don't even get me started on the squeaky toys!
Dog owners have no respect for the people living around the park.
Also, every summer there is a terrible flea problem around the area. Since it is NOT A DOG PARK, the area is not treated for fleas and the neighborhood - people, pets, and apartments - have to PAY for that - literally.
Have some respect for the neighbors who do not use the park as a dog park, which it is NOT!
a little off the subject but not by much
i live on fuller ave., just down the street from pointsettia park. the neighborhood is dog-ridden. i hear dogs barking at all hours of the day and night and i'm tired of it! WHY? because i never get an sleep.
i once saw a guy walking his dog to the park i assume and he let his dog urinate on our lawn. how rude was that?
dog owners in the neighborhood don't give a rat's ass about the people in the neighborhood, whether or not their dogs are keeping people up, spreading fleas, etc. they also don't give a rat's ass if their dogs bark all night long either. there is one building midway on fuller avenue, a large pinkish building. a dog owner lives there and her dog barked all night last night. nice huh?
the dog owners don't give a crap that we all live in close quarters and that the noise of their dogs carries all over the neighborhood. something has to be done about this as well. aside from stalking these people to find out where the dog barking is coming from and then writing that letter to the animal regulation department, what else can be done?
Trees On Melrose and Neighborhood
neighbor wrote on 2009-05-30 10:55:41
Additional trees on Melrose and in our neighborhoods would imporve our air quality and give Melrose Village a warmer feel. (Like 6th Street in Hanckok Park or Santa Monica Blvd in WeHo). Obviously not a top priority, but worthwhile to put on the list.
Trees On Melrose and Neighborhood
I fully agree that more trees in our neighborhood would greatly improve the look and feel of our neighborhood. I would like it to be a priority.
Bonnie
Trees
Why can't our area be beautiful and nice? I pay just as much taxes as my friends that live near the Four Seasons LA, in which, they have alleys that are perfectly paved, perfect sidewalks with no cracks and bumps, and where there are beautiful trees everywhere you turn. what's up with that? Where does my tax money go?
Park Meeting
There is a park counsel meeting July 23rd at 7:30 at the Poinsettia Recreation Center auditorium. There are plans to move the sandbox and children's playground to the center of the front of the park on Willoughby. For the park residents this is a horrifying thought. Please attend the meeting to protest this. It would cause more noise for the residents surrounding the park. The existing playground is closer to the park office and nobody from the park oversees what is going on in the front of the park. Teens use the playground at night to throw the swings over the pole, to hang out and drink and make noise so this move would really be a big problem for people living on the Willoughby side of Poinsettia Park. We need your support. Even one of the park maintenance officials agreed with me that is was a bad idea. It would eliminate the open green space that exists now where people can sit and sun or picnic or "walk their dogs."
Dog Run
The fact that there is not a designated DOG RUN for the community is a disgrace. Many of us are home owners who pay substantial taxes to the city and yet are treated by local police as if we are more of a threat to them then the drug dealers in Poinsettia Park that they seem to ignore while issuing tickets to dog owners. Melrose ACTION is an oxymoron. The 45 million dollars set aside for Plummer Park should include a designated area for tax paying dog owners. I have lived here for over ten years and the neighborhood has never been worse.
Dog Park at Poinsettia
It is absolutely ridiculous that there is no designated dog area at Poinsettia Park. The park provides us dog owners with a great sense of community and we are by far the majority users of the park. The fact that we have to risk getting a ticket to allow our dogs to play together while we congregate with our neighbors is a terrible oversight. It makes me wonder why on earth I pay such crippling taxes to a city that will not provide a recreation that can be enjoyed by all.
