Melrose Car Wash Can Stay - For Now

The Melrose Car Wash located at the corner of Melrose and Spaulding can stay in operation at least temporarily according to city officials.

Two small neighborhood groups banded together to force the 5 year old establishment to close on grounds it violated zoning ordinances and according to flyers distributed throughout the area, it was a "pollution, noise, and trash nuisance to the area".

Lawyers for the Car Wash showed that in fact the area was zoned for such a business and that the city should allow the business to continue to operate.  The city's zoning board deferred it's decision until another hearing on July 28th so that it could consult with the new City Attorney on the matter.

Hearing Information:

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 @ 4:30 pm

Los Angeles City Hall, 10th floor

Car Wash Melrose

Please, these two neighborhood groups are just on a witch hunt.. I mean It's freaking MELROSE AVE. for God's sake... The Car Wash generates only a fraction of the traffic in the area and to isolate one business out of several hundred on the few dozen blocks that are in the area is just stupid.

What's next? petitioning to force out the small alternative shops on the streets because the residents in the area don't like the customers? I mean, if you are a resident of that neighborhood, you knew what you were getting into when you moved there, so shut up and be happy that those businesses are there bringing much needed income to the area, if you don't like it, move... I hear there are plenty of cookie cutter communities over on the other side of the hill.

residents pushing out businesses or "biting the hand that feeds"

don't the home owners realize that without a flourishing business district
( melrose ave / melrose village ) , their property values will plummet ?
Houses in this area are worth so much because "Melrose Ave " has become an internationally known major shopping destination as a result of the efforts and great success of the merchants on melrose, NOT the home owners !
It's a shame to see the shortsightedness and lack of involvement from home owners when it comes to community progress and development.

come on people!
together we can make this neighborhood safe, clean and financially sound again .

Car Wash is great!

I live in the neighborhood and I like that car wash. Way more than that trashy Madison Car Wash. They do a great job and are very nice. They get a lot of business for this reason. WIth all the businesses closing on Melrose, here is one that is actually THRIVING! Leave them alone as long as they are following the local ordinances and paying their taxes (the city is going broke)!

Car wash

I am a resident here and as long as they dont make noise after the city time limits there should be NO REASON why the owners of this small buisness should close it. It is ridiculous to close it. After all, small buisness is the American dream isnt it?
